Mike and I have always enjoyed our alcohol — especially the batches of frozen margaritas on hot summer nights. However, this year I believe we may have found a new favorite summertime drink, the mojito. Here’s the story…
A few days ago, we watched the latest James Bond movie, “Die Another Day,” on DVD. In one of the early scenes, 007 buys Halle Berry’s character, Jinx, a mojito at a Cuban bar. I didn’t think anything of it, until yesterday when we went to one of our favorite eateries, Bahama Breeze. There, on the drink menu, was the mojito. Being a big Bond fan, not to mention the fact that I love Halle Berry, I ordered one. Mike was jealous that he hadn’t thought of it first, and ordered himself one too. It was love at first sip! Think of it as an alcoholic limeade with a hint of mint — sort of the Cuban version of a mint julep, but way better!
As soon as we got home, we ran out to the store to get the fixin’s for making them. Unfortunately, as we discovered, Bahama Breeze makes their’s using pure sugar cane juice, or guarapo. Without this one ingredient, the drink falls short. We are still trying to perfect our recipe and are going to search for a way to buy the sugar cane juice or squeeze it ourselves. It’s a small price to pay for such a fabulous drink.
Woo! Just found out that Goya sells sugar cane juice in a can… will have to try it out.
