I think this photo was taken when I was in Kindergarden. My mother made this beautiful satin costume of Pierrot. I’m sitting in front of my friend Chrissy’s fireplace… As I recall, she was Little Red Riding Hood that year. Somewhere there’s a picture of the two of us sitting together, but I think my mom has that one, otherwise I would have shown it.

Whatever happened to the days when kids wore home-made costumes?? They didn’t have to be anything fancy, hi-tech, or expensive… I can’t tell you how often I get little kids trick-or-treating without any costumes at all. And I’m not talking teenagers here; they just show up with their pillow cases or backpacks and just expect me to reward them with treats. I’ve also seen children escorted by a parent with his/her own pillow case. The nerve!! Also, I don’t let the kids dig their grubby hands into my candy bowl. I dole out the candy how I see fit. Extra treats go to the kids with costumes and originality! Maybe it makes me that bitchy lady who’s stingy with the candy, but I don’t care.
