Before Gabe was born, we frequently had to cope with middle-of-the-night scratching at the door or incessant meowing from our two kitties begging to be fed. George is the scratcher and Bella the cryer. It seemed they would take turns at who got to be the annoying one. However, George is really the main offender; Bella is just along for the ride. She must figure that if there’s food in the deal for her, she’s in. Also, I think George’s progressing cancer makes him more ravenous than ever. Poor kitty. I feel bad for him, but I can’t tolerate the constant annoyance.

In an effort to get George to stop the scratching, I tried installing tin foil on our door (way before Gabe was born). That seemed to work for a while, except he started scratching on the wall right outside the door. Luckily that scratching is not as loud and easily ignorable. Recently, however, the tin foil no longer keeps him from scratching. He just scratches right over it!! Now add the baby into the equation… sleep deprivation from new baby, exhaustion AND an annoying cat that thinks he should be fed at 4 am!! AAAAAAHHH! Kill me now!

Man, she's fat; probably from all those late-night feedings!!

Enter the baby gate! I think we finally have a solution we can all live with. That is, until they figure out a way to climb over it. For now it’s perfect. Plus, as an added bonus, I can keep all the doors open up there without having to worry about them coming in and laying all over the beds.
