Last year a friend of mine had a baby (long before I was even pregnant). Shortly after her son was born I noticed she was wearing a big sapphire ring. I asked her if it was new. She told me that her husband bought it for her for having the baby. How lovely…
Now, this conversation took place in Mike’s presence. So after my friend was gone, Mike gave me this wide-eyed look and said, “Am I supposed to give you something like that if we have a baby?” My answer relieved him; I’m not that wild about gifts of jewelry — especially fancy jewelry store stuff — so I told him, “Of course not!” What I would like is a new tattoo, though. Perhaps something to symbolize our new family. I thought about a branch with two birds looking over a little nest. Maybe something like this:

I know it’s a little unorthodox, but I think it would be neat. But alas, we have no money, so that luxury will have to wait.
