I have been running on and off for two years, ever since I thought it would be fun to run in the Chase Corporate Challenge with some co-workers. Really I was just there for the beer and food, but I did sort of have fun in-between catching my breath and the rain. (It was raining so hard my shoes filled with water to the point that it was hard to tell when I ran through a puddle.)

The year after, I trained a lot more before the race and beat my race time. That felt good, and I had to admin it was nice to have an activity to get me out of the house for 30min. I kept training and running regularly with people at work during lunch. I was getting hooked. I bought my first new pair of running shoes as a prize for beating my race time the year before.

My Etonic Praya's

Last year I ran the Chase, The Firecracker 5 mile, and missed the Jungle Jog because Gabe was born that day. I stopped running after Gabe was born and had to basically start training all over again this year. Losing weight has really made me faster. I was really happy with my time this year especially since I had a 24 hour stomach bug that ended 12 hours before the race.

I started looking at barefoot running after I saw an article online last winter. I think the Vibram’s (Vee-brams) looked really cool too so I bought a pair this year and have been working up my mileage in them SLOWLY. Running barefoot or in Vibrams use muscles you almost NEVER use normally. My calves especially burn after my once-a-week Vibram run.

But I really like how light they are and how I feel so much more in contact with the ground. I still run in my Etonics moat of the time, but I think as my legs and feet get stronger, I will switch-over to them as my preferred “shoe”.

Anyway, here they are, pretty wild huh?

Yes, those are MY feet.

More showing-off.
