Why I Marched Today

May 25, 2013 at 11:09 pm

Today I participated in the March Against Monsanto. I joined over 2 million people from 436 cities in 52 countries to stand up against these bio-tech monsters with their deep pockets and their corruption. Given my recent crusade to personal wellness, I have a new and deep desire to help others in their journey to wellness, whatever that may be. In learning about my health and how it became so degraded, I learned that the […]

Breakfast of Champions

January 28, 2013 at 11:00 pm

A few posts back I mentioned one of Gabriel’s and my favorite breakfasts: The blueberry omelet. Now that the detox is over, I can finally enjoy it again! Hurray. I missed it so! I admit, a sweet omelet might seem a little odd at first, but trust me on this one: It’s pretty darned good. I found the original recipe here, but have adapted it a bit to suit my tastes and available ingredients. Two […]

Sugar Detox: I Survived!

January 26, 2013 at 5:19 pm

So what do you eat when you eliminate sugar (in all its insidious forms), dairy, legumes, fruit, and grains (including corn and potatoes)?? Oh yeah, AND natural low glycemic sweeteners like sugar alcohols and stevia! Turns out, quite a lot! And hey, did you know that cashews and peanuts are both considered legumes!? I didn’t know that, and now I do. So, yesterday I wrapped up the 21 Day Sugar Detox, and I’m feeling victorious […]

Smorgasbord

November 22, 2012 at 10:28 pm

Since we rearranged our whole house configuration and got a new dining room table, we finally had enough room to host a big dinner… and what better dinner to host than Thanksgiving. There were only 5 of us (including Gabe), but I swear, with the amount of food on the table we could have fed 10 people. The spread was as follows: Turkey of course, baked yam casserole, two kinds of cauliflower (one GF, one […]

Giving Thanks

November 22, 2012 at 12:10 am

Happy Thanksgiving everybody! I hope you’re taking time to sit back and enjoy it… relax even! At least that’s what I’m trying to do. We’re approaching things a little differently around here this year. Last year this time I was a physical & emotional mess. And I guess that’s what I’m thankful for this year. Sometimes it takes those terrible moments of misery to show you what’s really important. When I hit the bottom of […]

Beertender Mini-Review.

October 23, 2011 at 5:47 pm

For my Birthday this year, Vanessa got me a beertender! (Yeah, my Birthday was in July… sue me.) Here are the basics: No, it doesn’t MAKE beer. It just keeps tiny little kegs (roughy a case) of Heineken, Heineken Lite and Newcastle Brown cold. It has a tendency to be picky about the glass that is used and that that glass be pre-rinsed with water… else you get foam city. Yes, I can only use […]

You call it the Great New York State Fair

September 23, 2011 at 12:30 pm

You call it the NY State Fair. I call it “Where’s the fried dough?”, oh and “We need maple sugar candy!” Going to the fair this year was a truly eye-opening experience. My memories of what going to the fair was like as a little kid and what it is like for me now are so different that it’s barely the same place when comparing the two. My memories of the fair as a kid […]

A Photo On Some Days: Onion

Didn’t really stick to my every-day photo. But… I am still going to keep posting pics when I am inspired to do so.

CAKE!!

April 20, 2010 at 6:42 pm

I don’t know what possessed me, but something made me do it. Maybe it’s because I had a bunch of heavy cream and didn’t want it to go to waste… or maybe I was craving it, but I made a chocolate cake last week—drum roll please—FROM SCRATCH! With fresh whipped cream on top! I know! I’m sort of shocked about it too. I had been eyeing a recipe in Natural Health Magazine from way back […]

A Photo a day… every day.

April 20, 2010 at 5:29 pm

I thought it might be fun to carry around the little Kodak V1073 we got from Vanessa’s last job (ew) the battery life is bad, and it doesn’t’ use batteries but it takes some really nice pictures for a tiny little camera! I make no promises… okay, I promise to post one photo a day. Until I run out of stuff on my desk. ;)

Pork Vindaloo

April 19, 2010 at 8:22 pm

As you have read, Vanessa and I have basically rediscovered cooking. On Saturday we made pork vindaloo and man was it good. I started-off making the curry in the afternoon, since this was a big undertaking. Seriously, I’m going from making toast and grilling in the summer to all-out ethnic dishes from all over the world! I toasted-up the nuts and then threw everything into the new food processor to blend it up. After a […]
